CME products are the deciding factor in attracting customers and liquidity to the Exchange. CME
has led the industry in product innovation for decades, and it continually looks ahead to
identify and meet customer needs with stellar products and services.
CME provides markets for four major product sectors — commodities, which includes agricultural
and industrial products, foreign exchange, indexes and interest rates. Several CME products that
trade in the pits also trade electronically on CME® Globex®. This is known as "side-by-side"
trading. In addition, CME has teamed up with OneChicago, LLC® to offer products from these
exchanges through the CME Globex electronic trading platform. CME's suite of trading products,
including CME Eurodollars, CME S&P 500® and CME NASDAQ-100® futures, serve as global benchmarks
for valuing and pricing risk.
Look to CME for new and exciting products, as the Exchange continuously monitors market
needs to better serve its customers.
CME Equity Products
Trading index futures enables you to participate in broad market moves with one trading
decision, and without having to select individual stocks. CME's equity futures and options on
futures contracts closely follow the price movement of their respective underlying indexes. These
products are widely used by financial professionals and individual investors for portfolio
protection as well as investment reward.
In 1997, CME introduced CME E-mini(TM) S&P 500 futures, which are smaller-sized,
electronically traded versions of our pit-traded CME S&P futures contract. This product along
with the CME E-mini NASDAQ-100 futures launched in 1999, have become the fastest-growing
futures contracts in CME's history
CME Interest Rate Products
Interest rates, loosely defined as the price of money, have a profound and pervasive
influence on both businesses and individuals. The effects of interest rates are felt in everything
from credit cards and mortgages to the coupons of corporate bond issues. To meet the need to hedge
against existing or future interest rate risk, CME offers a variety of interest rate products.
CME Foreign Exchange Products
In today's global economy, many companies' business dealings involve foreign
currencies. The continuous fluctuation of currency rates can make it difficult to anticipate costs
and forecast profits. Currency futures provide businesses the means to hedge exchange-rate risks
for all types of multinational transactions.
CME Commodity Products
CME futures on livestock, dairy, fertilizer and forest products enable numerous
companies - from small family farms to large agribusinesses - to better manage their price risks.
Trading commodities can also be rewarding for those who accept the risk these agribusinesses seek
to diminish. Today, both hedgers and traders have a variety of products to trade, including CME
Live Cattle, CME Lean Hog, CME Lumber, and CME Milk futures and options on futures.
CME Alternative Investment Products
CME's Alternative Investment products (CME Auctions, CME Weather, CME Energy) offer
risk management tools designed to serve markets and industries that may be affected by factors such
as weather and crude oil prices. Some of these products - weather, for example - are based on new
definitions of tradable commodities. Others, such as the e-miNY energy products, stem from
innovative partnerships. Each product demonstrates CME's commitment to recognizing market and
customer needs and developing products to meet those needs.
Security Futures Products
Security futures are future contracts on individual stocks, narrow-based indexes,
and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). Security futures are traded through OneChicago, a joint venture
of CME, the Chicago Board Options Exchange® (CBOE), and Chicago Board of Trade® (CBOT).
Security futures can be traded from either a securities or a futures account and are easily
accessible through both CBOEdirect(TM) and CME Globex.
